Vargas Shuts Out Glendale in 11-0 Win

LAMC Softball defeated WSC rival Glendale College Thursday in a 5-inning run-rule game, making it the Eagles' 2nd win of Conference play – both of them in mercy fashion. The win brought their overall record back up to .500 at 11-11.

Sophomore starting pitcher Carmen Vargas threw the complete game shutout, her first of the season. She allowed only three hits, no walks, and no hit batters, while striking out three.

"Carmen came out and competed from the first pitch of the game," Pitching Coach Emily Seidel said. "She was locating her pitches and moving the ball. When she does that, she's really hard to beat, and that competitiveness feeds into her defense. They played with confidence and made some fantastic plays behind her."

Offensively, the Eagles were aggressive. They attacked early, picking up 4 runs in the 1st and another 5 in the 2nd. Glendale managed to quiet them in the 3rd and 4th, but Mission put the final nail in the coffin in the 5th with 2 more runs. That would be more than enough support for Vargas, who did not allow a Vaquero on base in the final inning.

The Eagles are now 2-1 in the Western State Conference. Their next conference match is Tuesday, March 6, at 2:30 p.m. at home against Citrus.
