Warriors Defeat LA Mission After Early Onslaught

LA Mission
TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors bounced back from yesterday's loss with a big 10-6 win over LA Mission College on Friday afternoon at Warrior Field.
The Warriors led 10-1 after five innings after two big innings in the fourth and fifth inning.
Matt Hammond had a perfect day at the plate going 4-for-4 with 3 runs and his second straight game with a home run over the right center wall. Ryan Matsukawa, Caden Lewis, and Cameron O'Neil all had multi-hit games. Slater Nunez went 1-for-4 with 4 RBIs.
Luke Steward tossed a quality start going six innings and allowing just one run on five hits, one walk, and fanning five batters. Slater Nunez also picked up the save after tossing the final three frames and allowing just two hits and striking out three batters.
LA Mission took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Matt Hammond tied the game back up for the Warriors in the bottom half of the inning after leadoff solo bomb made it a 1-1 game.
The Warriors put up a four-spot in the fourth inning. Matt Hammond and Caden Lewis started the inning with back-to-back doubles to score one run. The Warriors loaded the bases and with two outs, Slater Nunez doubled in three runs to make it a 5-1 game.
The Warriors then proceeded to put up a five spot in the fifth inning. Hammond and Lewis once again had back-to-back doubles to start the inning. Cameron O'neil singled in one run to make it a 6-1 game. Nate Torres also had a bases loaded knock to center field that made it 7-1.
The Warriors got three more runs in the inning off a Slater Nunez sac fly and 2-RBI knock from Ryan Matsukawa.
The Eagles put a 5-spot of their own in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to 10-6. However, Slater Nunez limited the damage and faced just two batters over the minimum over the final three innings.
The Warriors will host San Joaquin Delta College on Saturday afternoon for their final game in the SoCal Challenge. This is the first time the Warriors will have played the Mustangs since Game 1 of the CCCAA State Championships in the 2019 season.
