Walnut, Calif. – In their season opener on Friday, January 24, the No. 7 ranked Mt. SAC Softball Team secured a 5-2 victory over LA Mission.

HOW IT HAPPANED:

The Mounties struck early, when designated player Samantha Chavez delivered a 2-RBI single to center field in the first inning, scoring Kayden Connaty and Samantha Orozco for a quick 2-0 lead. First baseman Audrey White extended the advantage in the fourth inning with a single to shortstop, driving in Katie Griego to make it 3-0.

In the fifth inning, catcher Morgan Kneubuhler smashed a double to center field, bringing home Kiana Kadena to push the lead to 4-0. On the mound, Isabella Guerrero dominated through five shutout innings, limiting LA Mission to just two hits.

LA Mission mounted a sixth-inning rally against reliever Samantha Vizcarra. Adriana Hernandez doubled down the left-field line, scoring Natalie Ascencio and advancing Erika Denz to third. Arianna Ramirez followed with an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 4-2.

White quickly extinguished the Eagles' hopes for a comeback when she blasted a solo home run that brought the home crowd to its feet. Her teammates greeted her with hugs and high fives as she crossed home plate, brining the score to 5-2. Connaty took over the mound for the final inning, keeping the Eagles at bay and closing out the win for the Mounties.
