Women's Cross Country California Sate Preview

The Los Angeles Mission College’s cross country season still lives on.

Ruth Cobieya and Janice Salazar raced in San Diego this past weekend with a bid to the CCCAA State Championships on the line. Competing with no team meant that the women needed to be inside the top-20 of all individuals whose team did not qualify for the state meet while also finishing in the top half of the race.

Cobieya finished 63rd overall out of 183 finishers easily placing her in the top half of the field. Salazar finished 86th and was also inside the top half of the racing field. Cobieya crossed the line with a time of 22:13 and Salazar was 32 seconds behind her finishing with a time of 22:55. Both women raced with a ton of confidence and performed up to their expectations.

Official selections come out today with Cobieya advancing to the CCCAA State Championships that will be contested in Fresno, California. Salazar missed the 20th spot by 6 tenths of a second with a very tightly contested race.

Cobieya will be looking for her best race of the season. She currently has a personal best of 20:28 and she is trending towards being able to beat that time next weekend.

This will be the first time since the reintroduction of cross-country here at Los Angeles Mission College that the women have been represented at the State meet. The team will travel to Fresno on Friday, November 22nd with the race starting at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 23rd.
