SYLMAR, CA – The Los Angeles Mission College (LAMC) Women's Volleyball team, known as the Eagles, started their season on a resounding note as they cruised to a straight-set victory over the visiting Cuesta Cougars on October 25, 2023. Dominating the court at their home turf in Sylmar, the Eagles showcased a blend of tactical prowess and athletic excellence, winning 25-13, 25-18, 25-21.

First Set: A Dominant Display The Eagles set the tone early, displaying a dominant form that overwhelmed the Cougars right from the outset. Temple Vasquez, #1 for LAMC, had an impressive showing with 12 kills, although she also had 5 errors in her 28 total attempts, netting a .250 hitting percentage. It was Jaya Davison, however, who topped the offensive efforts with 16 kills and a stellar .303 hitting percentage, becoming a formidable force that the Cougars struggled to contain.

Second Set: Eagles Maintain Control Despite a more spirited effort from the Cougars in the second set, the Eagles maintained their composure and control. Taylor Boone, #32, played the role of an exemplary setter, doling out 35 assists over the course of the match and contributing 3 service aces. The Eagles continued to capitalize on Cuesta's errors while asserting their dominance at the net and from the service line.

Third Set: A Resolute Finish The Cougars showed their strongest fight in the third set, pushing the score to 21, but the Eagles, undeterred, wrapped up the match with the same tenacity they started with. The defensive showcase by Hilda Zahedi, who racked up 19 digs, thwarted the Cougars' attack and laid the groundwork for the Eagles' seamless transition to offense.
