Eagles of LA Mission Fall to Mt. San Jacinto in a Thrilling Volleyball Face-off

San Jacinto, CA: The Eagles of Los Angeles Mission College took on the formidable women's volleyball team of Mt. San Jacinto on August 30, 2023, in what proved to be a riveting contest. Despite their best efforts, the LA Mission squad was defeated 3-1 by the home team.

The game began with Mt. San Jacinto setting a strong precedent with a win in the first set, 25-19. However, the LA Mission team made a brilliant comeback in the second set, edging past Mt. San Jacinto 25-19, leveling the match 1-1. The third set was a closely fought contest, with both teams putting forth their best, but Mt. San Jacinto managed to secure the win with a score of 25-22. The home team continued their dominance in the fourth set, winning it comfortably 25-9, thus taking the match with a final score of 3-1.

For LA Mission, Temple Vasquez led the team's attack with 9 successful kills, but also had 12 errors in her 36 total attempts. Ella Gawellek followed closely with 10 successful kills, making a significant contribution despite 11 errors. Taylor Boone stood out with her exceptional setting skills, contributing 27 assists, and also impressed with 3 service aces. On the defensive end, Geraldine Martinez was the standout player for the Eagles, registering 20 digs.

Mt. San Jacinto's offense was spearheaded by Mckenna Conklin who racked up 12 successful kills. Megan Gajda was not far behind with 10 successful kills. Trysta Vincelli demonstrated her skill with 21 assists, making sure her teammates were always in the best positions to score. On defense, Gajda also made a significant impact, leading the team with 14 digs.

The service errors were kept to a minimum by both teams, showing a high level of precision and training. Both teams registered 7 service errors each throughout the match. However, it was evident that Mt. San Jacinto's blocking game was strong, with the team registering a whopping 16 block assists, with Hailey Frary being the standout blocker with 6 block assists.

While LA Mission will be keen to bounce back from this defeat, Mt. San Jacinto will be riding high on confidence and will look to continue their winning streak in the upcoming games.
