Volleyball Wins a Five Game Thriller to End Season

Volleyball Wins a Five Game Thriller to End Season

The Eagles saved their best volleyball for the the end of the regular season in a five-game comeback win against Antelope Valley College last Friday.

In their last meeting, Mission had more kills than their opponent but were overwhelmed by the presence of AVC's dominant block and committed many unforced errors in the loss.

Knowing this the Eagles spent their time focusing on playing smarter offense during practice, trying to hit off the hands to earn points instead of avoiding them.

The ladies made Head Coach Richard Barraza proud in the 5th set by executing the game plan and earning 4 of their 9 kills by hitting off the opposing block.

Things didn't look as promising for LAMC in the opening sets, though, as they lost the first two games as a result of unforced errors and the inability to capitalize on AVC's mistakes.

In the third set things turned around as the Eagles lowered their serving errors and took commanding control of balls on the net.

After being down 10-13 they went on a 12 to 2 run and finished the game 25-22. They stayed hot and closed out the last two sets 25-16 and 15-12.

Middle blocker Alexis Hernandez led the team with a career-high 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .500 on 24 swings.

Stephanie Rodriquez, who had struggled offensively during the regular season, also had a big game, contributing 10 kills of her own after subbing in during Game 2.

Libero Samantha Sullivan had 23 digs, and Zoe Baer led the team in serving with 5 aces.
