Los Angeles Mission College Women's Tennis team showcased their skill and determination in the Western States Conference Championship tournament.

The Los Angeles Mission College Women's Tennis team showcased their skill and determination in the Western States Conference Championship tournament last week, with many of the Eagles qualifying for the 3C2A State tournament on April 25th-28th. After a tremendous 2 days of tennis, the following ladies will represent the college at the Ojai Championship.

WSC Singles Tournament

Round of 64:

Madelyn Barajas secured a solid victory against Jocelyn Ortega from Antelope Valley College with a score of 8-4.

Elena Khachikyan faced tough competition but emerged victorious against Belladora Moga from Ventura College with a score of 8-2.

Veronika Verdyan demonstrated her prowess with an 8-2 win over Chrystelle Aguiar from Ventura College.

Yesica Cruz showed resilience despite a challenging match, ultimately falling short against Jamielyn Diaz from Glendale Comm. College with a score of 1-8.

Citlalin Sanchez showcased her skills, securing a victory against Savannah Vasquez from Bakersfield College with a score of 8-4.

Ximena Ruiz dominated her match against Michelle Pascault from College Of The Canyons, winning with a score of 8-0.

 

Round of 32:

Madelyn Barajas faced a tough opponent in Mane Sargsyan from Ventura College but couldn't secure the win.

Josilyn Rivera fought hard but was defeated by Erika Ayriyan from Ventura College.

Veronika Verdyan faced a challenging match against Callie Tzab but couldn't advance to the next round.

Mia Shields displayed her strength, defeating Emily Lopez from Ventura College in a close match with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.

Citlalin Sanchez faced a tough opponent in Haruno Ono from Ventura College and was unable to advance.

Ximena Ruiz unfortunately had to withdraw due to injury.

 

Round of 16:

Josilyn Rivera (Qualified for State) battled but was defeated by Yesugen Ganbaatar from Ventura College.

Mia Shields (Qualified for State) showcased her resilience, defeating Sara Vargas from Ventura College in a tight match with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 10-4.

 

Quarterfinals:

Mia Shields faced Sydney Tamondong from Ventura College but couldn't secure the win.

 

Consolation Round:

In the back draw, Veronika Verdyan (Qualified for State) demonstrated her determination and skill by winning her next three matches, capping the day off by defeating Alexis Schmidt, the #1 player from Ventura College, in the consolation finals.

 

WSC Doubles Tournament

Round of 32

Veronika Verdyan and Ximena Ruiz secured a solid victory against the Bakersfield College duo Savannah Vasquez and Jadyn Aguilar, with a score of 8-1.

Yesica Cruz and Elena Khachikyan faced tough competition from Santa Barbara City College but fell short with a score of 1-8.

Madelyn Barajas and Citlalin Sanchez also faced a challenging match against College Of The Canyons and were defeated with a score of 1-8.

Mia Shields and Josilyn Rivera received a Bye.

 

Round of 16:

Veronika Verdyan and Ximena Ruiz (Qualified for State) continued their winning streak with an 8-6 victory over Jocelyn Ortega and Kaelin Vasquez.

Quarterfinals:

Unfortunately, Veronika Verdyan and Ximena Ruiz had to withdraw due to injury.

Josilyn Rivera and Mia Shields faced tough opponents in Anaya Ayanbadejo and Yesugen Ganbaatar but couldn't secure the win.

 

Consolation Bracket:

The Eagles' doubles team didn't let setbacks deter them as they battled through the consolation bracket. Madelyn Barajas and Citlalin Sanchez showcased their determination, securing victories in the quarterfinals and semifinals. In the consolation finals, they faced Savannah Vasquez and Jadyn Aguilar again, emerging victorious with a score of 8-2. The Eagles' double team displayed skill, teamwork, and resilience throughout the tournament, ultimately clinching victory in the consolation bracket.
