Soccer Begins Second Round of Conference
Men’s soccer suffered two unfortunate losses last week to lead into the second round of Western State Conference play.
Mission played Allan Hancock on Tuesday, Oct. 24, to end the first round of conference. The Bulldogs, ranked 4th in the division, had the home field advantage and were able to come back from behind in the second half of the game to beat the Eagles 3-2.
Neither team looked dominant in the first half, but Mission was able to keep the opposing offense at bay. Freshman midfielder Mariano Pantoja scored with an assist from Jorge Rojas in the 35th minute for a lead going into the break.
In the second half, freshman defender Elijah Patyk kicked a goal 5 minutes in for a 2-0 advance for the Eagles. But that’s when the Bulldogs came alive. They shut down Mission’s offense for the remainder of the game and netted 3 goals in a 10-minute scoring frenzy to clinch the win.
The struggles continued for Mission on Friday, Oct. 27, against 3rd -ranked Oxnard at home.
The Condors took almost no time to score. Two minutes into the game, they put up their only goal of the first half. The Eagles were then able to keep them quiet, but also couldn’t score a goal of their own.
It took Oxnard until well into the second half to score again, but Mission couldn’t reply, resulting in an 0-2 loss.
The Eagles take the field again on Tuesday, Oct. 31, against Moorpark at home at 4 p.m.
