Coach Cascione steps down

End of an Era

After 12 years at the helm of the L.A. Mission College Eagles baseball program, Coach Joe Cascione is stepping down. In his final year as the coach for the Eagles, Joe has the team lined up for another playoff run. Coach Cascione has amassed 240 wins, three trips to the playoffs, two conference championships and two Coach of the Year Awards. He and his teams have set records for most wins in a season (28), tied for most playoff appearances (3 and counting), most total wins for a coach (240 and counting) and most importantly, over 100 student-athletes have transferred on to play and continue their studies at the next level.

Coach Cascione's leadership and guidance has touched not just the baseball team but all of our student-athletes at Mission. His tireless work ethic and drive to succeed has helped bring our athletics program to new heights. Coach's motto has always been, "Preparation + Confidence = Success."

Joe will continue his work in the classroom as a Kinesiology instructor and a mentor for all of us.

A Coach's Path

After graduating from St. Genevieve High School, Joe enrolled at Pierce College and became a standout on the baseball diamond. He was a First Team All-Conference player and team captain for the 1991 season and led his team to within three outs of going to the State Final Four.

Upon leaving Pierce, he led Cal Lutheran University to back-to-back appearances in the Div. III College World Series. In 1993, he was named to the All-American team. Joe also played two years of professional baseball in Palm Springs and Washington in 1994 and 1995. In 2014 Joe was inducted into the Pierce College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Joe received his Bachelor's degree from Cal Lutheran University in 1994 and his Teaching Credential from Cal State University, Northridge in 1997, and he was named Student Teacher of the Year at CSUN. Joe also earned his Master's degree in Education from Walden University in 2009.

Joe started his coaching career in 1996 as an assistant baseball coach for Alemany High School. After that he moved to Cleveland High School as an assistant coach in 1999 and was named the head coach of the varsity program in 2000 through 2006. In 2002 Coach Cascione led the Cavaliers to Dodger Stadium and won the 4A LA City Championship.
