Jonathan Tyler Signs to Campbell

LAMC Baseball outfielder and pitcher Jonathan Tyler has signed a letter of intent to play for Campbell University.

Campbell, an NCAA Div. I school in Buies Creek, North Carolina, had an impressive 2018 season which included a place at the Athens Regional alongside the University of Georgia, Duke University, and Troy University in the NCAA College World Series bracket.

The playoff run followed a Big South Conference championship, which Campbell secured by winning the conference tournament after earning the No. 1 seed with a 21-6 BSC record. The Camels, coached by Justin Haire, finished 35-26 overall.

Tyler, a WSC All-Conference Honorable Mention selection, put up solid numbers throughout the Eagles' 2018 season.

In 89 at-bats, he collected 27 hits including three doubles, a triple, and a homerun, for a .303 batting average and a .393 slugging percentage. His .406 on-base percentage was the fourth highest on the team. He added 19 runs scored, 11 RBI, and two stolen bases for good measure.

On defense, Tyler made only one error in 35 total chances for an impressive .971 fielding percentage. While he only pitched 4.2 innings for the Eagles, he is expected to contribute as both a pitcher and outfielder for the Camels.

Tyler started his college career as a walk-on at the University of California at Santa Barbara, then played for Santa Barbara City College in the 2016 season. He redshirted the 2017 season at SBCC and transferred to Mission in the Fall of 2017.

"JT is one of the greatest teammates I have ever coached. We talk about always giving 100% on the field effort and being a great teammate, and JT is the epitome of that," Head Coach Joe Cascione said. "He never took a day off and was always hustling from station to station, on and off the field. I wish I had 30 just like him. Extremely talented and humble."

Tyler is one of four LAMC baseball players who are currently committed to 4-year programs. Second baseman Tyler Grissom and outfielder Sam Gray have signed to play at Chico State University, while catcher Cade Spurlin has signed to play at Dixie State University in Utah.
