Cade Spurlin Commits to Dixie State University

LAMC Baseball starting catcher Cade Spurlin has signed his letter of intent to play for Dixie State University in St. George, Utah.

Dixie State is an NCAA Div. II school and a member of the Pacific West Conference. The Bison, coached by Chris Pfatenhauer, finished an even .500 in the 2018 season with a 25-25 overall record. They placed 5th in their conference out of 11 teams at 21-19 and did not advance to a regional playoff bracket.

Spurlin earned 2nd Team All-American, 1st Team All-State, 1st Team All-Region, and 2nd Team All-Conference honors in recognition of an outstanding season. He was an offensive juggernaut for the Eagles, leading the team in several categories including hits (58), batting average (.392), slugging percentage (.743), on-base percentage (.492), and total bases (110). His 11 homeruns not only led the team, but ranked him 6th in the state. He tied teammate Sam Gray with 13 doubles and 38 RBI for the team high in both categories.

Behind the plate, Spurlin made only four errors in 236 total chances to give him a .983 fielding percentage. In 40 games played, he allowed only six passed balls while throwing out 17 baserunners.

"Cade had a tremendous all-around year for us. He was extremely special on the offensive end and also won the Gold Glove for Best Defensive Catcher in our League," Head Coach Joe Cascione said. "I feel Cade has just touched the surface on his talent. I believe his best years are still ahead of him. He is an extremely gifted individual."

The list of LAMC Baseball committed sophomores continues to grow. Gray and 2nd baseman Tyler Grissom have both signed to Chico State, while outfielder Jonathan Tyler has inked his commitment to Campbell University
