Women's Tennis Advances to State Individual Playoffs

Women's Tennis continues its magical season as two individual players, Anna Kynclova and Isabella Cornejo, advance to the State Playoffs at Mt. San Antonio College this week.

Anna Kynclova entered the Regional playoffs as the Singles number 2 seed in the entire bracket and defeated her first-round opponent, Maddie Veltri, from Orange Coast College 6-1, 6-1.

She continued her dominance by defeating Katherine Busani 6-0, 6-0 from Grossmont College.

Anna has now advanced to the State Individual finals next week.

Anna has an astonishing match record of 20 wins and only 3 losses.  Of those 20 wins, 17 times her opponent only won 1 game vs Anna. An incredible feat for anyone at any level.

Head Coach, Joe Cascione said, "Anna is a remarkable athlete that not only possesses an extraordinary physical talent, but she does all of this within the confounds of a team concept. She is remarkably talented but an even better leader and role model. She is very encouraging to all her teammates and always has a positive attitude. We are very fortunate to have her part of our team!"

Anna and Isabella will also be representing L.A. Mission College at the State Finals as the 7th seeded Doubles Team!! Anna/Isabella defeated Saddleback College in the Regional Playoffs 6-1, 6-0 to advance to State.

The Doubles team has compiled a record of 15-4 this season and compete next week for State.

Coach Cascione stated, "Anna and Isabella work extremely well together and to compile a 15-4 record at the Doubles Number 1 spot is an incredible accomplishment. They beat a very talented Saddleback College team this past week in Regionals to earn their spot in the State Finals this week!!"

The Doubles team of Julisa Galvan and Verenice Prado had a fantastic year for L.A. Mission Doubles 2.  They went 10-7 on the year and had a HUGE win vs College of the Canyons in the Western State Conference Championships to advance to the Regionals.

As a team, L.A. Mission College's Women's Tennis made it all the way to the Final Four in Southern California losing to eventual champion El Camino College.  Ending their team season going 14-5. Coach Cascione was beaming when speaking about his team. "You cannot ask for a better group of athletes! They worked extremely hard all year to earn every accomplishment. We always talk about "lighting in a bottle".  Basically, that is when Hard Work + Preparation + Opportunity + Luck + Team Togetherness all come together to create a magical season.  That is what we captured this year".
