The Los Angeles Mission College Women’s volleyball team has started its season with a respectable record of 3-2.

The first two matches played were won in straight sets for L.A. Mission as they started off strong against Santa Monica College and L.A. Trade Tech at the Ventura College Kickoff Quad.

At home the third match was another sweep in favor of the Eagles against San Bernardino.

They lost both games last weekend at the Pierce Quad tournament without taking a set from either of their next opponents.

Against Pierce College passing and offensive errors kept the team from competing at a close level with the strong Brahma squad.

The Eagles showed more life against Grossmont College in the second match after making several substitutions and moving players around to get different looks.

As the season progresses the Eagles continue to work hard and learn from every match.

“This weekend was tough but losses happen. We learned we aren't the best, yet, and we need to continue to work hard and train well. Teams will always be good, and we'll have to compete...either we're good enough or we're not, it's our goal to be good enough”, said head coach Rich Barraza.

The team is building around key returners including last year’s MVP, Libero Lucia Estrada who was named first team all-conference.

The freshmen class also shows promise as the coaching staff continue to shape the program with a focus on longevity.

Last season L.A. Mission finished fourth in the Western State North with a record of 6-6.

Their next match is this Friday at 6 p.m. away at Southwestern College.

The Eagles next home game is Friday September 30 hosting Citrus College at 6 p.m.
