Soccer Fighting for Playoff Spot in Final Week of Regular Season

With two games left in the regular season, LAMC Men’s Soccer remains a contender for a playoff bid after defeating Allan Hancock 5-3 on Friday night.

The win puts the Eagles’ overall record at 7-9-3 and their Western State Conference record at 3-3-2. They sit third in WSC rankings behind Oxnard and Santa Monica, with a good chance to advance to the post-season if they fight past Santa Barbara and Oxnard this week.

The Eagles defeated Santa Barbara in the first round of conference play, but they face a tough competitor in Oxnard, who is currently ranked No. 13 in the state.

Mission is on an offensive streak right now, having scored at least two goals in six of its last seven games. Freshman forward Brandon Escobarescudero leads the team with 10 goals on the season, while freshman midfielder Ricardo Martinez is catching up with eight – including two key goals in the win against Hancock Friday night.

Defensively, Mission will depend on redshirt freshman goalkeeper Miguel Granados, who is ranked fourth in the conference right now with 65 saves.

Mission will play against Santa Barbara this Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 2:00 p.m., and against Oxnard this Friday, Nov. 9, at 3:00 p.m. Both games will be played at the soccer stadium at El Cariso Park.
