After graduating from St. Genevieve High School, Joe enrolled at Pierce College and became a standout on the baseball diamond. He was a First Team All-Conference player and team captain for the 1991 season and led his team to within three outs of going to the State Final Four.

Upon leaving Pierce, he led Cal Lutheran University to back-to-back appearances in the Div. III College World Series. In 1993, he was named to the All-American team. Joe also played two years of professional baseball in Palm Springs and Washington in 1994 and 1995. In 2014 Joe was inducted into the Pierce College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Joe received his Bachelor's degree from Cal Lutheran University in 1994 and his Teaching Credential from Cal State University, Northridge in 1997, and he was named Student Teacher of the Year at CSUN. Joe also earned his Master's degree in Education from Walden University in 2009. 

Joe was the head baseball coach at Cleveland High School from 2000 to 2006, winning the 4A LA City Championship in 2002.

Joe has been serving as the head baseball coach at L.A. Mission College since 2008. In 2014, Mission baseball won its first Western State Conference Championship (25-16, 16-5) in 20 years. Joe was named 2014 Western State Conference Coach of the Year. He repeated his performance in 2017, earning a second conference championship and Coach of the Year award and taking his team to super-regionals with a 28-16 record.

Since 2008, over 50 of Coach Cascione's baseball players have moved on to 4-year universities with substantial scholarship benefits. Joe’s motto since he started coaching has always been, “Preparation + Confidence = Success.”

Joe's last season of coaching baseball was 2018-2019. He is now the Women's Tennis Coach at LA Mission.

Joe is married to his wife Jamie Cascione. They have a daughter, Gabriella (10), and son, Santino (8).
